Good Vs. Bad Website Smackdown

Image
Facebook is widely recognized as a user-friendly and accessible platform, providing a seamless experience for its vast audience. Its design is intuitive, with a clean and uniform layout that enables users to navigate easily and stay connected with friends and family. The leadership and ownership of Facebook under Mark Zuckerberg have remained consistent, which has allowed the platform to maintain its core vision and continuously evolve in response to user needs. This stability has enabled Facebook to implement user-centric features and enhancements, ensuring a reliable and enjoyable experience for its community. In contrast, MySpace struggled with a lack of consistent leadership and ownership, leading to a platform that frequently changed direction and failed to deliver uniformity to its users. The site often appeared cluttered and difficult to navigate, lacking the streamlined design and user-friendly experience that Facebook provides. Such inconsistency undermined user trust an...

Chapter 4 Building a Collaborative Culture

Image
Chapter 4 was all about building a collaborative culture. To build a collaborative culture, it is necessary to form relationships in which trust, collegiality, shared vision, and group development thrive. Collaboration is interactions, getting to know each other, and finding common perspectives and experiences. It is important to nurture and maintain positive relationships by building trust, which is necessary to solve problems and achieve goals. Trust is a staple and involves communication, time, and contact with others. The secret to creating deep and trusting relationships is providing opportunities to share. There is also a major correlation between transparency and trust, especially when talking about collaboration and the use of online connected learning tools, in theory, this is an online relationship with others. Collegiality is the shared belief that none of us is as good or smart as all of us, and then we can all contribute to improving individual practice....

Chapter 5 Using Tools to Support Connected Learning

Image
Chapter 5 was titled Using Tools to Support Connected Learning. Utilization of tools and technology in today's day and age is so necessary as we live in a world that is consistently adapting to all the new platforms and technologies that are rolled out daily. Some of these technologies have been established for years, and others are up and rising. However, these tools are not necessarily helpful unless the individuals using them understand the context in which the tools can best improve their learning. Otherwise, these tools can simply be a distraction. Some of the tools that were analyzed in Chapter 5 included social bookmarking, which allows you to bookmark the videos that are most important to you and can help, as many are just simply distractions.       One of my favorite topics to talk about in this chapter has to be the tools for connecting in collaborating. I feel like the tools for connecting in collaborating are going to be m...

SmackDown Web 2.0 Application

Image
As students studying in school and going through these educational systems, we have advanced in our technologies and evolved in the way that we store, organize, and share data. As we continue to advance through our education and go into our professions, it will also be necessary for us to have a multitude of techniques to be able to store, organize, and share data amongst those involved in our career paths. All things in today's day and age seem to have found themselves digitally, and this is unavoidable as we are part of an evolving world filled with technology that has created a much easier flow to many of the processes necessary along these paths in our education, professions, and everyday lives.       The application that I chose for my second SmackDown presentation was Dropbox. Dropbox is an application that many of us have heard of, but until you really dive into it, you realize that there's a little bit more to offer than what you might've ...

Chapter 6 - Building Your Connected Learning Community

Image
Chapter 6 of The Connected Educator was titled Building Your Connected Learning Community. This chapter was about building a personal learning netw ork and strategies to be successful in doing so. It is very important in many professions if not all to have a strong personal learning network as in these times, we are constantly changing with an evolution of increasing information. There is no one being that knows all things and for that reason sharing information amongst one another in a diverse community allows us to build and learn from different ideas, ideologies, and information from many sources who share the same goals and aspirations in their professional development. A personal learning network becomes a source of intelligence and connection within a network. Utilization of basic tools, such as Twitter, which is now known as X, Flickr, and Delicious were all examples of useful social networks that can help build a strong personal learning ne...
