In Chapter 2, we learned about connecting learning communities. Within that terminology, we broke apart, three different aspects of connected learning communities. This included professional learning communities, personal learning networks, and communities of practice. Breaking down three different aspects of connected learning communities allows us to understand a more intricate view of professional development in today's day and age. Professional learning communities were one of the first to be described in the chapter. A professional learning community is one that we are all very familiar with. It's a very traditional school environment, which consists of ministration and teacher teachers with students. In a professional learning community, there is only one goal and that is for students attending to succeed and learn accordingly.
Now the last connected learning community that is described in Chapter 2 is most important to me. I'm striving to become a chiropractor, and I am finishing up my major here at Stockton in health science to take the next step to chiropractic school. I met an amazing chiropractor, local, who has taken me to local seminars, and seminars in Marietta Georgia. The seminars consist of communities of chiropractors all practicing and sharing their reviews and beliefs as to how they can work independently, but also as a unit for the same purpose and service communities, share the same interests, they consider themselves to all be equal and skillful with the same talents. The chapter even states that. "none of us is as good as all of us." Lastly, they all share the same practice and serve the same purpose. This is most relatable for me, diving into the field of chiropractic. This chapter was a great place to start, and I'm excited about what the rest of this course has to offer.

I loved the way your third paragraph was really in depth about your real life experiences. It demonstrated a real life example of what the textbook was discussing. Connections are so important to have, no matter what field you're in. I'm glad you are able to have such an amazing mentor that has the ability to connect and network you to all sorts of people, organizations, programs, etc. It demonstrates the importance of communication in the community.
ReplyDeleteI like how you brought up your in-person experience and how the seminars consisted of the types of communities that were covered in Chapter 2. I also enjoyed the part in the third paragraph where u stated that the people within these communities see themselves as equal. This part specifically stuck out to me because of how it essential it is for people to not think they are more skilled than others and be willing to learn from their peers.
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about your journey and how you detailed your planned steps to success, such as seeking out a helpful mentor. I noticed you mentioned attending chiropractic seminars in Marietta Georgia. I have friends that actually are attending Life University and are well on their way to getting chiropractic degrees. They are also from Jersey. Keep doing what your doing! There are some great programs over in Georgia.
